Hundarutanhem.se (translated: "Homeless dogs") is a website that presents homeless Irish dogs in need of a home in Sweden.
In Sweden we don´t have any stray dogs. Still many people want to help a dog in need or prefer to adopt an older dog instead of buying a pure breed pup from a kennel.
People in Sweden treat their dogs like a member of the family and many are heartbroken when they hear about all the dogs being put to sleep in Ireland. Helping an Irish dog has become very popular and we can home almost any dog to a great new home in Sweden.
Most of the dogs coming to Sweden have a family waiting for him/her at the airport. If we haven´t found the right family, the dog will be taken to one of our caring fosterhomes.
Requirements of the new family
We are very careful when choosing the right home for each dogs. This is what we require:
All dogs will of course live their lives as family dogs.
The dog must be registered with the Board of Agriculture in Sweden.
The dog must be insured.
The dog must not be left alone more than 4 hours/day.
The family adopting an active dog must be an active family with an interest in agility, obedience training or any other kind of training other than the normal exercise.
Depending on the breed and temperament of the dog we require that the family have experience of the kind of dog they want to adopt.
We don´t have a rescue center and all our volunteers have other jobs. Still we often mange to home 8 dogs/week.
If there is a problem with any dog, training and behaviour expert Johanna Håkansson, from the company Mad About Dogs, supports our organisation and helps the family with advice.
Our rehoming team have lots of experience with dogs and dogs with behavioural problems:
